The Brutalist: A Monumental Exploration of Art, Ambition, and the American Dream

László Tóth emerged as an innovative architect in his hometown of Budapest. After escaping the turmoil of post-war Europe, he finds himself residing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in the back room of a modest furniture store owned by his relative, Attila. His significant opportunity arises when affluent siblings Harry and Maggie engage him to transform their late father's chaotic study into an organized reading room. Initially, Harrison Lee Van Buren disapproves of the design. However, he later revises his opinion and presents László with a lucrative proposal to create a new community center he has envisioned. The narrative then shifts to the arrival of László’s wife, Erszébet, in America. What should be a joyous occasion becomes complicated by tensions with Van Buren and various issues related to the construction project.
